👨‍✈️ Meet Your Guide: Captain Dieter

Local Expertise. Lifelong Passion. Unforgettable Adventures.

Hello! I’m Captain Dieter, a Victoria local since 1997. My lifelong love for the outdoors began at age 12 on my aunt and uncle’s island in Île Perrot, Quebec. Summers were spent exploring Lake St. Louis in a small aluminum boat. The only rule? Be home by supper. I felt like Tom Sawyer on water.

⚙️ Always Up for Adventure

My love for the sea is matched only by my passion for exploration. I’ve never been one to stay still:

  • 🏍️ Motorcycle touring through rugged coastal roads

  • 🛩️ Gliding silently over the landscape in a sailplane

  • 🐎 Riding horses through open country

  • 🚙 Offering backcountry 4×4 off-road trips for those looking to go beyond the beaten path

This adventurous spirit spills over into everything I do—from navigating wild coastlines to leading private charters and excursions for fellow thrill-seekers.

🚜 From Farmland to the Ocean

Growing up on a farm in Ontario gave me practical skills—but boating wasn’t one of them. Still, the water always pulled me back. In 1985, I bought my first boat, a 25’ wooden Sheppard, and that kicked off a love for boating across Ontario’s lakes on various vessels including a Carver, Bayliner, Wellcraft, and a Baja.

⚓ West Coast Waters

After moving to Victoria in 1997, I tested a few ocean-ready boats:

  • 🛶 Boston Whaler – too flat-bottomed for open waters

  • 🚤 32’ Uniflite Cabin Cruiser (Emily Autumn) – gorgeous but gas-hungry

In 1999, I bought a 17’ Zodiac Yachtline and began taking our B&B guests on unforgettable coastal excursions.

🚀 Turning Passion into a Business

In 2008, I stepped up to the Zodiac Medline III, the largest and most luxurious Zodiac in the region.
✅ Spacious and stable
🧵 Updated in 2022 with new upholstery and tubes
🌞 Custom-built T-top for shade

What started as a hobby officially became a niche business for private marine tours.

🧊 A New Chapter: The Axopar 28 Cross Cabin

In 2024, I added a new flagship: the Axopar 28 Cross Cabin.
🌡️ Heated interior cabin
🌊 Comfortable outdoor seating
📅 Extends the boating season into cooler months

This vessel lets me offer year-round tours with added comfort and safety, perfect for visitors and locals alike.

🌺 A Family Passion for Hospitality & Adventure

This isn’t just my journey—it’s ours. My wife, originally from Thailand, shares my love for hospitality and the ocean. A former hotel manager, she now runs our 5-star oceanfront B&B, where every guest is treated like family.

🇹🇭 In the winter months, we live in Thailand and offer guided tours of Southeast Asia, sharing hidden gems and authentic experiences from her home country.

🚤 When we’re back in Victoria, you’ll often see her on the boat with me—smiling, welcoming, and enjoying the Salish Sea as much as our guests do.

🐋 Deep Local Knowledge

With decades navigating the Salish Sea and Gulf Islands, I bring unmatched experience:

  • 🔭 Wildlife spotting & marine ecology

  • 🧭 Expert navigation and safety skills

  • 🌿 Insider access to secret spots and scenic gems

No two trips are the same—every tour is a new adventure.

🌍 Adventure, Shared

I’ve guided guests from around the world to:

  • 🏝️ Hidden coves

  • 📸 Wildlife-viewing hotspots

  • 🚤 Custom adventures, including ocean and land-based excursions

Whether you’re on the water or off-road, I bring the same passion, safety, and sense of fun to every trip. Let me help you discover the best of British Columbia’s wild side—from sea to summit.
