Private Boat Wine Tours Gulf Islands

There are 5 wineries on the Gulf Islands which are easily accessed by boat. The first 3 listed here - Pender Islands, Saturna Island, and Salt Spring Island are in the southern Gulf Islands. Time allows for us to typically visit 2 of them.

The other two are further North and will add a fuel surcharge to any trip.

One of the private charter options is to visit several of these wineries on a day excursion, or simply choose one as part of any one of our customized private boat charters.

Please note our rates are for Captain and marine transportation. You are responsible for associated costs for the tastings, meals and on island taxi transportation.

Tour Sea Star’s terraced vineyard and winery on the rocky south flank of Mount Menzies on North Pender Island in the sparkling southern Gulf Islands of BC. In the lee of rainshadows projected by both the 12,000-foot Olympic Peninsula and Vancouver Island, Pender basks in a glorious mediterranean summer, with long stretches of dry, sunny weather.

On your wine tour you’ll see how, over an eight month season, with hand-tending and careful applications of water and nutrients, winegrapes ripen slowly and develop complex flavours. Hand-picked in late fall, grapes retain crisp aromatics while developing long, elegant flavours.

Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Gewrztraminer, Pinot Noir and Merlot under vine. Our summers are warm and our winters are mild; the ideal conditions for a long growing season. Excellent Bistro on location.

Sage Hayward Vineyards, in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment and the Islands Trust, is committed to ensuring that their enterprise does not threaten the survival of the Peregrine Falcons who nest in a cave atop the huge cliff that overlooks the vineyards. In an agreement with the Nature Conservancy of Canada they have dedicated a buffer zone between the vineyards and nesting site.

Whales, tall ship wreck and oceanside vineyards

the Crowther Family Boating Journal: Our Alaska cruise pulled in to Vancouver just after 7:30 am and by 11:30 we met up with Dieter. Our flight back home to Australia left the next day. With Dieter’s planning advice it all went like clockwork. We flew in to Ganges from the Vancouver harbour on a float plane with Salt Spring Island Air where Dieter met us. After enjoying an excellent lunch on Salt Spring we headed south through the Gulf Islands and stopped at the Saturna Island Vineyards to sample their wines and bought a few bottles. This oceanside vineyard reminded us of those back home in southern Australia near Melbourne. We also saw a tall ship wrecked on a reef near there. We passed through the San Juans where we spent an hour or so watching a super pod of Orcas. A large male breached completely out of the water just a few hundred yards from the boat. This is an experience we will never forget and recommend to anyone who loves the ocean and wildlife. Dieter dropped us off in Victoria right next to the West Coast Air float plane docks at 5:30 pm. By 7:00 pm we were back in our hotel in Vancouver! What a perfect day. This was the icing on our perfect week to the west coast. Thank you "Birds of a Feather". Next time we’ll be back to stay at your B&B in Victoria.
